Meet the Winners!
The winner of the 2024, $10,000 Home Renovation Giveaway was Jamie and Emerson Smith.
Jamie Smith is a single mother to Emerson, a bright and resilient child with cerebral palsy. They live in a small house on the North Shore, where Jamie has been doing her best to accommodate Emerson’s needs. Since Emerson relies on a wheelchair for mobility, the house’s small front entrance and narrow doorway to her room have made everyday life challenging. To help improve their situation, we reframed the front entrance to accommodate a wider wheelchair accessible front door. We also moved an interior wall in the front entrance so that when Emerson and Jamie come into the house there is more space at the entrance. The next challenge was getting in and out of Emerson's room, so we framed in a wider pocket door. We are so happy to see that these improvements have allowed Emerson and her mother to move around the house in her wheelchair with much greater ease.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in our first $10,000 Home Renovation Giveaway. Your nominations brought to light how many deserving individuals and families are in need, making it incredibly difficult to choose just one winner. We encourage you to continue helping a neighbor, family member, or friend in need. Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
We also want to thank all the subtrades that came in and helped us on this project. We had Earl Mills from River Valley Electric donate all of his labour and materials to this project for free. We also had Mike Brisbois from Mass Drywall donate his time and materials for free. Finally we would like to thank Kamloops Windsor Plywood and Alliance Door Products for donating the front door.
